PAINTING THROUGH MODERN MASTERS, PART 2: SOUTINE, GIACOMETTI & BOMBERG

“How do I move from a more skill-based mode of painting into a more personal, stronger, and exploratory way of working?”
This LIVE Eight Week online course is designed to give participants access to different ways of painting, moving from a more naturalistic and objective tradition to more Modern and subjective ways of working found in the twentieth century avant-garde.
Part Two will be working with the two-dimensional and three-dimensional relationship. How does the mass and form of what we’re looking at impact our marking and painting? How do we explore the 3-D “feel” of the forms we’re looking at?
Examining closely Soutine, Giacometti and Bomberg, I’ll be demonstrating how to work with a variety of exercises based on these painters’ explorations and inventions, such as:
- how to drop into our visual experience and follow the intuitive gesture
- letting the mark stay raw and sensitive
- painting to explore the tactile 3-D “feel” of the motif
- tonal marking as a way to discover structure
We will start by working with Soutine and then move on to Giacometti, and then Bomberg.
For intermediate and advanced. Course limited to 20 participants.
A Facebook members Only Group page will be provided for posting our work, for supportive community and creative sharing. There will be a weekly review and commentary of student postings on the Facebook page. Click HERE.
All sessions will be streamed in HIGH DEFINITION, providing greatly increased visual acuity of the painted surface and demonstrations.
All sessions will be recorded, archived and available for repeated viewing.
