Interior with Five Chairs

These works were done as an investigation into a structural dynamic that is more complex than three positions. What happens when there are five? Here a kind of reiteration occurs, a kind of doubling of emphasis, as two pairs of chairs seem to reinforce each other’s positions. The pentagon behaves similar to a strong triangle, It then opens up as a hexagon as the rectangular image in the corner clarifies and faces me.

This structural dynamic is further explored through a variety at attitudes, from slowly resolved, tonal representation to more gestural, intuitive exploration of space. The range of palette is also in play.

Many of these works were exhibited at Gallery 1261 in Denver.
