ABSTRACTION: FIGURE AS SOURCE, PART ONE, 2020

-

Details

This four-session intensive explores the process of figuration and abstraction.

In Part One, Jordan provides a series of step-by-step demonstrations, working from direct observation with the figure, arriving at objective proportion and structure.

In addition, Jordan experiments with different ways of investigating the human form — first in drawing, and then in paint, exploring different attitudes of working and handling the materials.

In Part Two, Jordan works on one canvas for the duration of the workshop, using the morning drawings and paintings as source material for an ongoing and improvisational discovery of abstract painting. In addition to the morning drawings and paintings, Jordan introduces working from Old Master paintings as an additional source of inspiration and material. As the workshop progresses the Old Master painting by Titian, Venus and Adonis, takes on significant importance.

Topics that are covered include: paint-handling, experimentation with formal elements (edge, line, shape, color, etc.), figure/ground relationships, composition, and the representation/abstraction dynamic.

Each session is approximately 120 minutes. The first session is available for FREE. You can purchase each video individually, or buy the full set at 20% off.
