PAINTING FLOWERS IN A TIME OF TYRANNY – online
Details
Painting Flowers reawakens us to the preciousness of life! It helps us regulate our nervous systems, integrate, realign, and strengthen our resilience!
How does one paint a bunch of flowers and make THEM AND US ALIVE? Working in oils within the tradition of floral still life, during this 8-week online course we’ll be working step-by-step, and learning how to set up a convincing rendition of fresh flowers.
In the first 4 Weeks we will focus on clarity of form and color:
- Week One will begin with drawing, working with line.
- Week Two will focus on values, working with oils in black and white, we’ll learn how our paint-handling, the mark, can work to create the form directly.
- Weeks Three and Four we’ll be working with tone and color mixing, beginning with a straightforward rendition and gradually moving into more experimental and gestural marking.
- In Part One we’ll look at the working methods of Manet, Morisot, Van Gogh, and Albert York.
During the second 4 Weeks we’ll try out more experimental and playful approaches.
- Week Five will begin with drawing, working in charcoal in a direct and gestural manner, exploring space and form though mark and perception.
- Week Six will continue the focus on black and white, working with oils, and exploring how experimentation and risk-taking can lead to unexpected results.
- Weeks Seven and Eight will work with color and the use of very heavy paint!, as well as non-tonal color.
- During Part Two we’ll look at painters and their use of mark, such as Joan Mitchell , Chaim Soutine and Frank Auerbach.
During each online session, along with the demonstrations, we’ll each be working in our studios and taking time to post to Padlet, reviewing together, sharing our process, and getting constructive feedback.
Materials used in the demonstrations will be oil paint. Participants are welcome to use whichever materials are available and suitable for their at-home situation.
A Mighty Networks Group page will be provided for posting our work during the week, for constructive feedback, and supportive community and creative sharing. Click HERE.
All sessions will be streamed in HIGH DEFINITION, with 3 camera views, providing greatly increased visual acuity of the painted surface and demonstrations.
All sessions will be recorded, archived and available for repeated viewing.
