What is the nature of my seeing?  What is the nature of my marking?  What does awareness have to do with any of it?  And what does awareness have to do with making a “good painting”?  What is a “good painting” anyway?  For that matter, what is awareness?

This course will explore the relationship between two-dimensional handmade image-making and awareness.  Working in both drawing and painting we will investigate the deeper nature of marking and depiction.  The exercises will range from empirical observation – looking at stuff – to abstraction.  An open-ended inquiry will take place —
