ONLINE INTENSIVE: Interiors – Making Space, Part Two
Details
Due to our current situation, this workshop is shifting to an online, weekly, format. The cost has been lowered accordingly. For participants that have previously registered credit will be given for future workshops and courses.
One essential aspect of painting is conjuring the illusion of space on a flat canvas. In this two-part, eight-week intensive, we will work on creating an interior space in oils. In Part One, participants will learn how to develop a convincing interior while working from observation, focusing on the establishment of architecture through geometry and large tonal relationships. Part Two will be more exploratory and intuitive, experimenting with ways of inhabiting and “dreaming into” the imagined three-dimensional space.
- Part One will consist of clear demonstrations by Jordan, establishing step-by-step structure of an interior space.
- In the later part of the morning, following the demonstrations, will be an ongoing assignment for participants to work on and develop an interior in their own studio space. Each class we will take time to review the work done from the previous week.
- In Part Two, Jordan will explore further possibilities for experimenting with painterly space: what can we place in that space? How directly can space be made? How much can we disrupt it and still have it hold, still work?
- Part Two will include an invitation to participants to experiment with different techniques and materials to conjure and discover their own unique spaces and interiors.
All sessions will be recorded and archived and available for viewing.
