ONLINE INTENSIVE: Abstraction: Figure as Source — Part Two
Details
Due to our current situation, this workshop is shifting to an online, weekly, format. The cost has been lowered accordingly. For participants that have previously registered credit will be given for future workshops and courses.
This four-week intensive will explore the process of figuration and abstraction.
- In Part One, Jordan will provide a series of step-by-step demonstrations, working from direct observation with the figure, arriving at objective proportion and structure.
- In addition, Jordan will be experimenting with different ways of investigating the human form — first in drawing, and then in paint, exploring different attitudes of working and handling the materials.
- In Part One, in the later part of the session, an assignment will be given to copy and draw figures from reproductions of paintings in art history using the techniques demonstrated.
- In Part Two, Jordan will work on one canvas for the duration of the workshop, using the morning drawings and paintings as source material for an ongoing and improvisational discovery of abstract painting.
- Participants will begin and develop their own abstract paintings using the copies of reproductions from the late mornings.
- Topics to be covered include: paint-handling, experimentation with formal elements (edge, line, shape, color, etc.), figure/ground relationships, composition, and the representation/abstraction dynamic.
In addition to the demonstrations, time will be given for questions, discussion and review of at-home-work.
All sessions will be recorded and archived and available for viewing.
