This art class is designed to give people the fundamental tools and skills to draw and oil paint from life. Working from still life, we will learn how to translate what we see into convincing and successful renditions.

We’ll start with basic drawing skills, developing proportion, shading and composition. Then working step-by-step we’ll develop a thorough understanding of oil paint and how to use it. Through a series of limited groupings of color we will gain a strong working knowledge of how color becomes light.

While the results of this class are similar to what you will achieve in a straightforward art academy, the goal here is to equip you with the skills you need to pursue your own, individual path. Working from observation in a naturalistic manner is an efficient way to integrate the eye, hand, brain, and materials into an organic and intelligent unified system.

As our mastery develops, spontaneous play becomes part of our repertoire. One-on-one attention is given in a supportive and creative atmosphere.
