FLOWERS, ABSTRACTION & CONSCIOUSNESS, online
Details
This course explores how a free range of response to what we see – often called ‘abstraction’ – can give us access to a deeper experience and felt understanding of Consciousness. (Whoa…what?!)
Taking fresh flowers for our motif – something unabashedly beautiful – helps draw us into its spell and facilitates a spontaneous response, going beyond what we normally might find appropriate.
Through a series of exercises, in drawing and painting, each participant will explore a range of responses to their flowers. The later class sessions will work with aspects of wholeness in relation to the previous exercises, bringing our work into strong composition and form.
We will explore through a range of play, experimenting with different speeds of marking, different attitudes towards depiction (geometry, tonality and edges), and different attitudes towards accident versus control. All demonstrations with paint will be in oils. Participants are welcome to use whichever materials is most fitting for their situation.
