SUMMARY:PAINTING AS INNER ENGAGEMENT\, Part Two
DESCRIPTION:***This course is part of the 8-Month training\, PAINTING\, POWER & PRESENCE\, and is available a la carte for those that are not able to participate in the full training.*** \nA LIVE Online 7-week course. \nThe course time has been increased by an ADDITIONAL 30 MINUTES to allow for ample time to share our work together during the online session. \n \nPart One is NOT a prerequisite for participating in Part Two. \n  \nWhat is the deeper nature of painting?   \nHow can I develop as a painter in accordance with this deeper nature? \nAll form comes from non-form – arising from\, and pervaded by\, ever-present Being. \nPainting carries within it the power to recognize and give expression to our true nature.  To help provide for this possibility\, this course is designed to work with and develop the foundational skills of painting within the context of Being and mindfulness. \nThrough an engagement with formal outward skills our inner sensibility will be engaged and clarified\, further attuning our attention to our true nature.  Through an online platform\, each session will include demonstrations and guided exercises to be practiced together.  After each guided exercise there will be time for sharing\, feedback\, questions and conversation. All of the exercises will be demonstrated\, facilitated and guided by Jordan. \n  \n\n\nWho this course is for — \nThis course is for people who are interested in developing foundational skills in painting and would like to do so through a lens of awareness and mindfulness. \nThis course is for people who already have foundational skills and are looking to deepen their painting practice\, both inwardly in terms of their experience\, and outwardly in terms of the painting itself. \nThis course is for people who are interested in exploring their deeper self and the nature of Being through the lens of sense perception and aesthetic engagement. \n\n\n  \n\nWorking from observation\, participants will explore and develop outer formal skills in tandem with inner skills and inward positioning.  We’ll be covering the following inner and outer skills: \n\nLocating the accurate geometry of the observed forms and the spaces in between the forms. This entails learning to measure\, seeing “through a grid”\, and shifting our attention from a discursive “thinking” mode to a more perceptually-based\, spacious mode.\nAssessing the relative tonal relationships of the various observed forms and learning how to mix these tones in paint. The search for convincing tonal relationships in paint entails a working understanding of value\, temperature and saturation.  As in the formal element of geometry\, the development of tonal understanding and mixing calls for a shift from a hurried mind to a more settled\, patient and present mind.\nExploring the nature of edges – how one form ends and another begins within our visual perception\, and how to translate that experience into paint. This exploration entails moving from our usual object-oriented attention to field-oriented experience.\nStructuring the shapes and various formal elements into meaningful composition and starting to explore the deeper significance of composition as a creative and mindful discipline.  What is the source of the experience of wholeness and “just right” form?\n\n  \n\n\nIn PART TWO\, we will work with color\, in oils\, exploring mindfulness through a sustained engagement with still life. Working on one painting for the seven weeks\, we will use the formal aspects of shape\, color-mixing\, and mark\, as ways of moving more deeply into our visual experience in the present moment.\n  \n\n\n\nThis course re-contextualizes painting back to its ancient roots\nas a human depth activity that gives expression to our true nature.\n  \nIn addition to the demonstrations will be a LIVE ongoing Q&A\, allowing for in-depth conversation covering the nuts and bolts of the exercise\, as well as fielding general questions regarding a painting practice. \nFor all levels.  Course limited to 12 participants. \nA Members Only Mighty Networks group page will be provided for posting our work\, for supportive community and creative sharing.  Jordan will conduct weekly reviews of the work with clear and constructive responses.  To go to the group page please CLICK HERE. \nAll sessions will be streamed in HIGH DEFINITION\, providing greatly increased visual acuity of the painted surface and demonstrations. \nAll sessions will be recorded\, archived and available for repeated viewing. \nA Webinar Link will be sent out upon registration. \nTo register click on the “+” sign below. \n  \n

SUMMARY:PAINTING THROUGH MODERN MASTERS - Cezanne/Matisse/Diebenkorn
DESCRIPTION:A Seven-Week LIVE Online Course.   \nParticipants are encouraged to work on their own paintings during the online session if possible.  The course time has been increased by an ADDITIONAL 30 MINUTES to allow for ample time to share our work together during the session. \n\n“How do I move from a skill-based mode of painting into a more personal\, stronger\, and exploratory way of working?”\n\n  \n\nThe Modern Masters course series is designed to give participants access to different ways of painting\, moving from a more naturalistic and objective tradition to more Modern and subjective ways of working found in the twentieth century avant-garde.\n\n  \nWhat was Cezanne’s project and what did that have to do with Matisse? \nWhat was Matisse’s project and what did that have to do with Diebenkorn? \nAnd what were all three doing and what does that have to do with our own painting?! \nContinuing with the ongoing exploration of Modern Masters as a source for inspiration and direction\, we’ll be working with still life as a motif\, first through the lens of Cezanne\, and then through the lens of Matisse and lastly\, Diebenkorn. \n\nThrough Cezanne we will explore the deeper nature of painting from perception\, and its creative relationship to the discovery of strong composition.\nWith Matisse we will work with color as light\, shape/rhythms\, and the meaning of fine-tuning an edge.\nDiebenkorn will give us a chance to play with what we have gathered in a full and painterly and exploratory way.\n\n\n  \n\nThe Weekly Syllabus: \n\nWeek One: A Presentation on Cezanne’s project as an introduction to the Deeper Possibilities of Painting.  Beginning our Still Life painting a la Cezanne and his questions.\nWeek Two: Continuing the painting through the lens of Cezanne.\nWeek Three: An introduction to Matisse’s project and how it was influenced by Cezanne.  Beginning our still life painting through the lens of Matisse.\nWeek Four: Continuing the still life painting and focusing on shape\, compositional re-working\, and edges.\nWeek Five: A 3rd session on the still life painting through the lens of Matisse.\nWeek Six: An introduction to the still life painting of Diebenkorn.  Quick\, playful experimentations with still life painting through the lens of Diebenkorn.\nWeek Seven: Continuing our exploration of still life through the lens of Diebenkorn.\n\n  \nPainting\, as a form of discovery\, becomes a vehicle for inner exploration and a metaphor for living. \n  \nEach session includes a LIVE ongoing Q&A\, and will be recorded and available a day or two after the live webinar.\n\nThe recorded sessions will be available until approximately 30 days after our last course session.\n\n\n  \nWe have a new community page where we can upload and share our work and visual travels. The site is HERE. Our group break-out room for this course is a members-only set up while the course is going on.\n\n\n
