DESCRIPTION:This in-studio\, ongoing\, 8-week course is designed to give people the fundamental tools and skills to draw and oil paint from life. Working from still life\, we will learn how to translate what we see into convincing and successful renditions. We’ll start with basic drawing skills\, developing proportion\, shading and color. Working step-by-step we’ll develop a thorough understanding of oil paint and how to use it. SUMMARY:PAINTING THROUGH MODERN MASTERS: GIACOMETTI\, SOUTINE & BOMBERG
DESCRIPTION:“How do I move from a more skill-based mode of painting into a more personal\, stronger\, and exploratory way of working?”\n\n  \n\nThis LIVE Eight Week online course is designed to give participants access to different ways of painting\, moving from a more naturalistic and objective tradition to more Modern and subjective ways of working found in the twentieth century avant-garde.\n\n  \n\nWe will be working with the two-dimensional and three-dimensional relationship. How does the mass and form of what we’re looking at impact our marking and painting? How do we explore the 3-D “feel” of the forms we’re looking at?\n\n\n  \n\nExamining closely Soutine\, Giacometti and Bomberg\, I’ll be demonstrating how to work with a variety of exercises based on these painters’ explorations and inventions\, such as:\n\n  \n\n\nhow to drop into our visual experience and follow the intuitive gesture\nletting the mark stay raw and sensitive\npainting to explore the tactile 3-D “feel” of the motif\ntonal marking as a way to discover structure\n\n\n\n  \n\nWe will start by working with Giacometti\, then move on to Soutine\, and finish up Bomberg.\n\n  \n\nFor intermediate and advanced. Course limited to 15 participants.\n\n\n  \n\n\nA Mighty Networks Group page will be provided for posting our work\, for supportive community and creative sharing. There will be a weekly review and commentary of student postings on the Mighty Networks. SUMMARY:CITYSCAPE! 3-Day Plein Air Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an exploration of “cityscape” plein air painting in the picturesque area of downtown Longmont.  Full of architecture from the early twentieth century\, Main Street of Longmont is full of color and character.  Jordan will be giving a 3-day workshop exploring the town! \nEach day will include two outdoor sessions working in a traditional plein air approach\, at the end of each gathering back at Patty’s convenient and central studio for crits and community.  We will work to develop observed tonal relationships\, searching for a convincing sense of structure\, space\, light and form.
