DESCRIPTION:An Eight-Week In-Studio Course.  \nFor intermediate and advanced. \n\n“How do I move from a skill-based mode of painting into a more personal\, stronger\, and exploratory way of working?”\n\n  \n\nThe Modern Masters course series is designed to give participants access to different ways of painting\, moving from a more naturalistic and objective tradition to more Modern and subjective ways of working found in the twentieth century avant-garde.\n  \nThis course will explore the relationship between the observed world\, Representation\, and Abstraction. \nUsing the motif of Still Life we will focus on the working methods of Richard Diebenkorn. The first 4 weeks we will work on paper\, using a variety of mixed media. \nThe second 4 weeks we will work in oils\, exploring and experimenting color\, shaping and marking through the lens of Diebenkorn. \n  \n\n\nPainting\, as a form of discovery\, becomes a vehicle for inner exploration and a metaphor for living. \n  \n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:“How do I move from a more skill-based mode of painting into a more personal\, stronger\, and exploratory way of working?”\n\n  \n\nThis LIVE Eight Week online course is designed to give participants access to different ways of painting\, moving from a more naturalistic and objective tradition to more Modern and subjective ways of working found in the twentieth century avant-garde.\n\n  \n\nWe will be working with the two-dimensional and three-dimensional relationship. How does the mass and form of what we’re looking at impact our marking and painting? How do we explore the 3-D “feel” of the forms we’re looking at?\n\n\n  \n\nExamining closely Soutine\, Giacometti and Bomberg\, I’ll be demonstrating how to work with a variety of exercises based on these painters’ explorations and inventions\, such as:\n\n  \n\n\nhow to drop into our visual experience and follow the intuitive gesture\nletting the mark stay raw and sensitive\npainting to explore the tactile 3-D “feel” of the motif\ntonal marking as a way to discover structure\n\n\n\n  \n\nWe will start by working with Giacometti\, then move on to Soutine\, and finish up Bomberg.\n\n  \n\nFor intermediate and advanced. Course limited to 15 participants.\n\n\n  \n\n\nA Mighty Networks Group page will be provided for posting our work\, for supportive community and creative sharing. There will be a weekly review and commentary of student postings on the Mighty Networks.
