DESCRIPTION:This 8-week\, in-studio\, course is designed to give people the fundamental tools and skills to draw and oil paint from life. Working from still life\, we will learn how to translate what we see into convincing and successful renditions. We’ll start with basic drawing skills\, developing proportion\, shading and color. Working step-by-step we’ll develop a thorough understanding of oil paint and how to use it. As our mastery develops\, spontaneous play becomes part of our repertoire. \nThe course is structured as an opportunity for ongoing skill development\, allowing each participant to work and develop at their own pace and rhythm.  \nOne-on-one attention is given in a supportive and creative atmosphere. \nTo register\, simply click on the “+” sign below.

SUMMARY:The Reading Group - Winter/Spring 2023
DESCRIPTION:***This course is part of the 8-Month training\, PAINTING\, POWER & PRESENCE\, and is available a la carte for those that are not able to participate in the full training.*** \nMeeting LIVE Online for 8 sessions\, every other Tuesday. \nJanuary 10\, 24\, February 7\, 21\, March 7\, 21\, April 4\, 18 \n  \nOver the course of the next few months we will be gathering online\, every other week\, to continue and deepen the conversation. \nThe selection of readings we will be covering this Winter/Spring will support our larger inquiry into the deeper nature of painting.  \nWe’ll begin with an excerpt from Suzi Gablik‘s essential book\, The Reenchantment of Art.  The we’ll move into a selection from the classic Art & Fear by David Bayles and Ted Orland.  We continue with a chapter frrom Stephen Nachmanovitch‘s The Art of IS\, exploring improvisation.  This will be followed with an excerpt on the nature of calligraphy from Beyond Representation – Chinese Painting and Calligraphy by Wen Fong.  \nWe’ll also be reading a section from All About Process by Kim Grant.  Her chapter\, The Artist’s Process as Self-Realization\, is quite relevant!  This will be followed by an essay from John Berger and then finishing with Linda Nochlin on Mary Cassatt.\n \nJordan will be facilitating the discussion in a supportive and friendly atmosphere.  Open to painters and non-painters\, of all persuasions\, world-wide. \n  \nTo register simply click on the “+” sign below.
