ABSTRACTION: Still Life as Source
A 4-Week In-Studio Course.
How do we move from objective skill-based painting to an Expansive, Creative & Playful Engagement?
How do we court and dance with Spontaneity, Risk & Courage in the studio?
This course will explore the relationship between the observed world, Representation, and Abstraction.
Each session will begin with drawings and painting studies from still life. We will then use these studies in an ongoing Abstract painting for four weeks, experimenting with form, space and light, in an open ended exploration.
Painting, as an open-ended form of discovery, becomes a vehicle for inner exploration and a metaphor for living. In this way, Abstraction becomes a way of understanding painting as a life practice and a long-term journey.
(No class session March 27.)
